I was wondering what do you guys use to clean and protect your vinyl top? What are some good products? Is there anything I should stay away from? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

I have been using Armour all cleaner, whats wrong with it? I figured it would be perfect for my vinyl roof.

Am I doing something bad?

Hmm. OK well RICKS thinks its ok, others think not. All I know is that my Vinyl roof doesnt seem to care. I guess Ill stick to car soap and the sponge. The baby oil sounds like fun too.

There does seem like a lot of urban myth BS though. I mean this stuff is plastic not leather. It shouldnt be complicated, just need to clean it and protect it from UV. Best bet then is to keep it in the garage and use soapy water to clean it.

I just read that other long and very involved post. Like some other folks said, I give vinyl the Lemon Pledge treatment.
I'm always very suspicious of those racks of "car care" products. But Lemon Pledge has stood the test of time of millions and millions of house cleanings.

The stuff I use that came highly recommended to me is Vinylex by Lexol. Let me give you a little info off the back of the container.....

Cleans, protects and beautifies Vinyl, Rubber, Plastic
It is a state of the art protectant that combines cleaning, protection and beautifying properties. It penetrates below the surface to restore the underlying plasticizers. DH-60 UV sunscreen filters out damaging ultraviolet rays while protecting the surface from fading and cracking.
Auto Interiors - Tires - Vinyl Tops - Bumpers - Tonneau Covers

So far I've used this stuff on my vinyl seats, dash pad and tires and I'm very pleased with the results.....right now my vinyl top is too new to put anything on it !!!

I use Armor-all on all the vinyl outside my car (which includes the black vinyl top and the little strip in between the tailights). With no protectants on it the vinyl top is a faded black, with no shine or luster. But with the armor-all on it is a deep shiny black, making the whole car look alot better. I have owned the car for a year and reaplied armour all to the vinyl top after each car wash (about every two weeks). Should I stop now? Is armour-all that bad? I thought it was supposed to protect not hurt the vinyl. I don't want to use anything that will hurt the car, but then again what else can I use that will give me that deep black shine?

I use newvinyl most of the time but I think that Vinylex by Lexol is better because it is also a cleaner.

So what if you've used armor all in the past, is there anything you can do to help it again? Like if you started using the baby oil or something?

BTW I stopped using armor all on my top a while ago because every time you washed it or it rained or it got wet the armor all would rense off and I'd get this greasy stuff on the paint by the drip rails and around the roof. The only way to get them off was to wash the car, and it starts over again unless you don't wash the top or wash ALL the AA off the top.
