Hey guys,
Does anyone have any instructions and/or pictures of a serpentine set-up on a 351W?

Are you trying to retrofit to a v-belt driven engine or just need the illustration for figuring out mounting or repair?

You have a few choices, either aftermarket or factory. If factory, look in a donor yard for a setup from a 87 to 93 FOX 5.0. You would use the front cover, water pump and accessories such as the updated alternator and CII power steering pump. You would have to find a 351W balancer (28oz.) from either a mid-eighties 351W LTD or possibly light truck. There are mounting brackets available from FORD RACING to allow for the increased deck height for the Windsor. Also idler pulleys to remove the thermactor pump, etc. from the assembly. If you have A/C, you will be able to use the later and lighter compressor. Have to change/modify things like power steering hoses, A/C hoses and alternator harness. It sounds difficult, but once you start to gather parts will see that it is not.

Or, there are ready made kits to accomplish the same thing more easily;

-March Pulleys Serpentine Conversion-

-FAE Serpentine Conversion-

That should get you started.

I have a pile of convertion parts, but have no idea how it goes together. Why do you need to change the balancer?

I am assuming you have an early 351. There may be a difference in the pulley mounting holes. Check what is on the car as to what you have in your parts pile. You also have to ensure that the pulleys line up correctly or it will be eating drive belts.

Oh, ok. Not sure what year the crank and balancer is from. I have so many brackets for this thing. Its crazy. I will be running the water pump, alt., PS, and maybe A/C down the road. On a related topic, will a Ford serpentine PS pump work on a Chevy gear box?

When you say {{{{{ shudder }}}}} Chevrolet, you mean a Saginaw box? That's allowed...

You can run any box off any pump as long as pressure and volume needs are met. You will need to know the pressure the box needs and the pressure the pump is rated at and either shim the relief valve in the pump or install an adjustible pressure reducing valve in the pressure line. You can also run a Saginaw pump.

Of course you know that you will have to fabricate lines. And don't forget the cooler...

Well, the front end of my 56 F-100 is a Camaro, including the steering. At least it has a Ford drive train.

So, anyone know how the puzzle goes together?
