Several post about re-chroming prompted me to do a little research.
After looking at several re-platers I found this fellow ,goes into some detail on how he handles his waste form the operation (which is what impressed me the most).

I have not used his services but his info is online, maybe this will increase the options when considering re-plating.

Using a 3-step, water-based spray application process, the ChromeFX? spray system will place a highly durable coating of real metal on almost any substrate without using any toxic metals. This coating duplicates the look and feel of real chrome and can be further customized to replicate precious metals such as gold, silver, brass, etc..

This may not be a good exterior finish..however it would be great for items inside
