A long time ago I spoke with an older guy that used to work at a Ford assembly plant and he was telling me about how they used to dip parts, like brackets for example, in paint cans and they came out looking perfect. He said they used to keep a layer of water on the paint and that was the secret. Has anyone ever tried this, do this now, or know about the procedure? I assume you must use an oil based paint to do this. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Please remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, MyFordPerformance.com, and FordRamAir.com

This may not pertain to exactly what you are asking, but my grandfather used to put about a 1/4" covering of water in the top of his paint can when painting with oil/lacquer based paints to keep the paint surface in the can from skinning over. This obviously won't work with water based paints. As far as it helping create a smooth paint job, I have no idea. I say, get small can of paint, a small part, add the water and see what happens.

I have a pint of oil based paint I bought just for that purpose. I'll try it when it gets a little warmer around here.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Please remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, MyFordPerformance.com, and FordRamAir.com

It has heat when the heater is on. It's not worth it to run the heat just to dry paint, especially when it will be free in just a few weeks.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Please remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, MyFordPerformance.com, and FordRamAir.com
