I've just removed my Nippon Denso compressor ready to replace it with a used but fairly new Sanden that fell into my lap. And while I was sorting through my pile of junk, I found a forgotten compressor out of a 70 T-bird with the exact same part number used on 68 Stangs! I've heard early (how early?) Stang compressors use a lot of horsepower and suffer from "belt slap". Originality in the AC department is not a big issue for me, but if I can do it and not suffer, I will. What would you do? Thanks as always, Simon

The early Mustang (65-73) AC comps are heavy, especially if you have the cast iron Tecumseh comp, like my '70 did. They do take up more HP since they are a different design than the Sanden. Plus, parts are going to be easier to find for the newer comps than the old Ford ones. I have a Sanden on my car and think it looks nicer than the old Tecumseh. The old compressors work nice, but just use more HP and are heavier. If originality isn't an issue, I'd go for the Sanden. Plus the old comp will need a rebuild, so that'll add more to the cost. I went to the Sanden and I'm very happy I did.------------------ Gary M.- 1970 Mustang Deluxe SportsRoof (daily driver), 1946 Ford pickup, 1947 Ford pickup, 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Town Vic
