No, I have never tried a super shifter, but I love my competition plus shifter with case stops that is currently in my car. I did shorten the chrome under the boot about 3" though. People told me to go auto for a good hard shift, and I said don't worry when I get done it will shift hard enough. Sure enough, when I hit 3rd gear at about 90 mph the tires squeal for a second or two, and the dash feels like it is going to fall out of the car. and that is with 11" of tread width on each tire! Ever since I got rid of the ford shifter and when with a hurst people have quit telling me it isn't possible to shift a manual fast and hard. You should see their eyes at 90 mph when I hit 3rd. So I would say go with the comp plus. But either way definitly go with a hurst shifter, you'll never go back! ------------------ 1970 coupe restored with the help of my dad. 302 with 600 holley, aluminum intake, headers, pertonix ignitor 2 with matched coil, lakewood bellhousing, 4-speed toploader, and 2.79 open 8" rear. Hey Steve, In my '69FB, I pull on a Hurst Street Super Shifter (PN#373-8615), and it has served me VERY well! However, mine is bolted to a good ol' 4-speed Toploader - not a 5-speed.Ryan

Hi Guys Thanks for the advice.Ryan, I have a 4 speed toploader as well it is fitted on my 66 coupe, but it comes out of a 67 Mustang according to the gearbox code. Did you have to cut the transmission tunnel to fit the shift lever.

Yeah I did, Steve. I had to cut out some of the "hoop brace" and enlarge the shifter hole a bit (to the left), but my car isn't a restoration, it's a drag racer....so I decided that I'd cut the shifter hole bigger & cut out a portion of the "hoop brace" to allow me to use the stronger/better (IMO) shifter over the Comp Plus shifter. The two primary reasons why I think it's a better shifter are straighter & stronger shift rods and shorter shifter throws. Ryan

Hi Ryan. That is what I was thinking after looking at the shift rods between the 2 different shifters. The straighter rods have got to be stronger, also the shift should be more positive. Do you know if it will take a reversing light switch? I intend to use the car on the strip, but I am also going to use it on the road. I have a center consol but the shifter hole is very large so I don?t think it will be a problem, also I was going to get the Hurst shift boot. Steve

That is why I shortened my shifter. It makes for a shorter throw. I also have the shorter arms on the tranny. I also am running a toploader. Man can they take a beating, and the shift hard too! My total throw from front to back is about 3" from the point where the t-handle mounts onto the chrome! ------------------ 1970 coupe restored with the help of my dad. 302 with 600 holley, aluminum intake, headers, pertonix ignitor 2 with matched coil, lakewood bellhousing, 4-speed toploader, and 2.79 open 8" rear. Steve, I recall Hurst sells a reverse light switch, but I'm not sure if it installs on the Street Super Shifter unit. I don't have any reverse light provision on mine. Years ago, when I was building my car, I took out my console and gave it away I used a Hurst Super Shifter boot (the larger one) to cover the enlarged shifter hole in the tunnel. If I had to guess, I'd say you can't use the Street Super Shifter with the OEM console anyway, because of the shifter location offset.
