Well...You have three methods of doing this with your chassis;

There is also the option of updating the system you have to Shelby Mustang specs which will give you a lot of steering effort improvement.

would a taurus rack n pinion setup work with a 66?

There are a couple of other options I know of, but somehow I lost my computer files on these. I had a web page once from a guy who swore by doing a conversion using Oldsmobile parts. And there's also a Toyota van conversion that's supposed to work well.
The Oldsmobile conversion was on the web. Maybe you can find it again?

I paid $100 for an SHO rack, a standard rack is $75.

If you use Mustang II tie rods you don't have to re-thread them like the Fiero rods.

I paid $15 for a manual Escort rack. This will be the cheapest yet!
