Fellas, I am trying to swap the drum to disc. Any advantages with either of the two systems listed in my subject heading. Would you recommend one over the other, are the Granada and the 68 Mustang disc brakes the same? Any inside info that I should know before I try to swap? as always, thanks a ton!

The 68s are liter than the Granada units, while the replacement parts for the Granadas are cheaper. Since the Granada units are heavier I would imagine that they are more heavy duty requiring a different tie rod and having larger rotors.

Granada is the same as a Mustang 2 only bigger. I think the granada is an 11" rotor. ALOT of street rod guys go to the Mustang 2 front end, with granada Rotors w/ a small GM caliper. Lot's of places make this kit off the shelf. ------------------ Jerry 69 Mustang Pro ET Drag 70 Mustang retired former footbrake car Jimmy: ( S-10 driver/friend ) Hey Jer how do you like my flames I painted on the old Bowtie? Jerry: Nice but you didn't have to do that, if you ever get it going fast enough at the strip it'll catch fire.

Think about a Wilwood kit. They use a big 11.75" rotor along with a superior 4 piston caliper that's forged aluminum. You get a option of differnt pad material. This kit will bolt right on your present spindles. Check out www.hotrodusa.com they sell a kit that includes a free adjustable proportioning valve. The kit cost $610.00 with FREE shipping!!!!! The down side that the front track will be 1" wider overall. Start adding up costs to rebuild a junk yard disc brake set up off a Granada or Mustang along with other disc brake kits out there. You'll see that this is quite a bargain. This is the route I'm going!!! [This message has been edited by Huskinhano (edited 04-22-2003).]

You will need at least 16" wheels to use the Wilwood kit. Some 15's MAY be able to sqeeze it in, but I don't know of any, maybe someone else here does. I wanted to use the Wilwood, it IS a great kit for less than most of the other ready made kits. also alot less unsprung weight. I have original shelby 10 spokes, and it just wouldn't fit. If you have 16's or better, I would definitely go with the Wilwood!

15" rims will clear the Wilwoods.

I think it is fine for a race car, but honestly I think if you buy it for a street ride you are spening 400 bucks you don't need to. Yes the wilwood kit is better. The street rod aftermarket kit works fine too for about half the money. It is a FORD 11" rotor and before I went to the wildwood kit for my race car, this 11" grenada rotor and gm brake caliper stopped a 2900lb car running 6.30's in the 1/8th just fine. Only reason I switched was because I went to a much larger motor. It's your choice do you want the Wilwood look or the bucks in your pocket? JS

How do I know if the spindles, rotors, and calipers are Granada or Original 68 Mustang? Also, I have purchased some new rotors, and bearings under the terms of a 68 Mustang. Will they fit the Granada spindles? I don't want to take this thing apart until I have the correct stuff to put it back together. As always, thanks!
