Does anybody know if all 65 fastbacks came with bumper guards or were they an option? My car does not have them on the front but it does have them on the back and I can not see any indication that they were ever there ( on the front ), no brackets, no holes, nothing at all. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Front bumber guards fix between the lower valance bolts and a small bracket fixed to the front bumper bracket(look for two small holes in front bumper brackets). The small bracket has a an alignment tab and a bolt to hold it secure. The upper guard tab bolts to this small bracket. The lower guard tab bolts to a valance bolt position (remove the valance bolt, put both valance hole and lower guard tab hole in line then insert bolt through both.

According to the Mustang Recognition guide bumper guards were standard equipment until 1968 when they became optional.It doesn't comment on any particular body style so I assume this is for all styles.If there's one thing I've learned about fords over the years though its that there always seems to be exceptions.
