In my 72, one seat hump is OK, and the other has been repaired in a way that things have changed. Unfortunately, Osborn's 72 Interior manual doesn't explain these things. Can anyone help out, so I know if I need to restore them?
1) Each seat is held in place by three bolts which attach to nuts inside the hump, and one stud / nut that also attaches to a nut inside the hump. Is there any good reason why one is a stud?
2) Immediately behind the bolt and stud / nut on the leading edge, and beneath the bolts on the rear edge, there are four largish oval holes. What is the function of these? Are they just access holes to get at the nuts inside?
3) On the inside edge of my good hump, there are two very small holes, one at the front and one at the back. What are these for?
Thanks as always. If this is as clear as mud, I'll try to take a pic.
Simon

For 1, the stud was most likely used by the assembler to be able to quickly place the seat and put another bolt in. Without it the seat would slide around and they'd waste time finding the bolt holes. You see studs used like that all the time on cars.

For 2 and 3, these may just be 'register' holes -- a way to grab or locate the panel during assembly. Just my theory.

Steve, you are correct on both accounts. You will notice that those oval shaped holes are on a lot of the sheetmetal throughout the car, sometimes with a metal filler plug, sometimes rubber.
