i took off my whole rear end the other day to replace the bushings and get the springs re-arched and paint some things.... you know, the usual. well to take the axel out from under the car, other that all the bolts, i had to disconnect TWO brake hoses ( i think). on the axel where that brake line junction is, two flexible hoses ran towards the front of the car. one went straight to the metal tube that runs in the tranny tunnel. but the other went into the floor pan where the bottom of the rear seats would sit. what is this for and where does it go?? i cant seem to find it inside the car or the other end of it for that matter! do i need this? what do i do with it when i put the axel back on the car?? help me please.

It's a vent tube for your rear axle housing. It terminates right there at the frame.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Please remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, MyFordPerformance.com, and FordRamAir.com

I ran into the same thing a few days ago. Noticed a small metal boss about pencil size in dia. on the top of the axle housing. After checking, found out it was a vent, as pointed out. I did install a rubber tube and terminated it in the frame. Thanks for the verification as had me wondering. [This message has been edited by beachbum (edited 04-10-2003).]

I asked the same question this time last year. As you were told now, I was told then that it is a vent hose. Wow! You guys gave me the knowledge to where I could have answered this question confidently! As always, you guys/gals are the greatest! [This message has been edited by bibbs68 (edited 04-10-2003).]
