How difficult is it to install a toploader in a 1970 stang? The trans that is currently in my car is from a truck or god knows were.

If you are replacing a FoMoCo 3 speed stick it's a piece of cake. If you have a shifter for the top loader it's a bolt in.

Yep, if you had a 3-speed stick it is a simple bolt in, just did it in my 70 coupe last week, took me maybe 5 hours to do, and I swapped in a lakewood bellhousing while I was at it, the driveshaft is the same length and everything, now if you car was originally an auto well then it could be more of a challenge.

Nope, I'd be replacing a four-speed trans that came from a truck or somewhere else. I haven't ID'd it yet, but it definately isn't a toploader.

A little off topic...

Hey HH, I see you're an Orange County guy... do you ever make it do Donut Derelics in Huntington on Saturday mornings?

There you guys go again....bringing tears to my eyes once again!!! I lived one block from there for 8 years, and then after I move up here to Oregon (15 years this month) the cruise becomes one of the must do's in SoCal!!
Maybe one of these years on a trip back I will get the chance to swing by the old stomping grounds.

Hey V8,

I haven't been there for about six months, but I need to go soon. Those guys are some early birds. If you don't get there early enough you can miss out on most of the cars.

V8 - I didn't know anyone was so close. It's good to know another forum freak is close by.
