Will 215/60R/14`s fit on the front of my 65 fastback without any rubbing or binding problems? My backspacing is about 4 to 4 1/4 inch. Suspension is all stock, rim size is 14x7 styled steel wheels. The rear leaf-springs have been re-arched and are at stock original height. I have decided to go with the 215/60R/14`s on all four corners if they will fit, I like the look and profile of the tires, how do you think they will look on the fastback? Thanks in advance for your thoughts, comments and advice. it should fit easily. I have 245/45-17s all around and have no problems. It aslo depends on the rims backspace and if your car is lowered. As for looks....have you seen a mustang on 17s lately? They look great on coupes.....awesome on a fastback.

The backspacing is approximately 4 to 4 1/4 inch. quote: Originally posted by sick66: it should fit easily. It aslo depends if your car is lowered.
Car is not lowered, it is stock height.

Did you have to roll your fenders and or rear quarters? Do you have any rubbing or bumping of any kind in the front? JOHN

my backspace is 4.5. "Did you have to roll your fenders and or rear quarters? Do you have any rubbing or bumping of any kind in the front?" I didn't roll the fenders. The only rubbing is when car is loaded and doing a u turn in a parking lot. If you are thinking of goin with a larger wheel size it is definately worth it. I waited 6 months to save up for some cragar s/s's and would do it again in a flash. What style are you thinking of getting? mark

MARK, I have already purchased 14x7 styled steel wheels, they are re-pops of the originals that came out for the 65 mustang with red centers. I am going to put 215/60R/14`s on all four corners, from what I can gather from the information you have given me the 215`s will fit fine with no rubbing on the front and back. I posted about this a little while back, but I can not find it, I was also given good information on that one but I have forgotten it. I am a bonehead . Here is a link so you can see what they look like, these are exactly what I just purchased. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2409883991&category=34209 JOHN ------------------ 65 2+2 FASTBACK 87 TAURUS WAGON 98 F150 XLT TRITON V8 4.6, 4 WHEEL DRIVE Member:Vancouver Island Mustang Association M&M #1710 MyPhotoPage MY TRUCK

On my 68' 215/60/15's come awfully close up front with 3 3/4 backspacing. I got them to rub once on a turn with a crest/bump in the middle of it at about 45mph. Personally I think its because my front suspension is too soft. I haven't bought the Monte Carlo brace or any polygraphite yet.

Hey John, Ashley's '66 has 205/70/14 on 14"x7" on all four corners and never rubbed and still have some clearance to play with. Not sure about 215/60's fitting though, there's a good chance they will rub on the lip.------------------ Duane 71 Fastback (his) under resto (351C-4V C6 auto) 73 Mach 1 (hers) (351CJ 4 speed) 66 289/2V coupe (daughter Ashley's) 89 LX 2.3 convertible (daughter Amanda's) M & M Member #730

Hey Duane, These are how the numbers break down for tire size on Ashley`s car: 205/70/14`s = 25.2 inches high and 8.07 inch's wide. ********************************************* These are how the numbers break down for tire size that I want to put on my car: 215/60/14`s = 24.15 inch's high and 8.46 inch's wide ********************************************* The height should not be a problem, but I am not very sure about the width. On the back they should be fine, but the front worries me a little bit. Are there any differences between the coupes and fastbacks in as far as how the wheel opening are made so that it affects tire size I can use? John, As far as I know the wheel openings are identical on all the various body styles, so you should be just fine with the tires you are planning on using. The way to verify, is have the tire shop mount the tires, place them on the car, lower the car back to the ground and then have the tech start it up and SLOWLY turn the wheel back and forth while you check it over BEFORE HE BACKS IT OUT OF THE GARAGE!!! If you are satisfied with the clearances, take it around the block to check under speed with the tech as your passenger and he can verify how it runs. I did this with my '73 Mach at the local Firestone and wound up having to purchase smaller tires because the first set rubbed on cornering. They were more than happy to go through this at no charge because they wanted to make sure I was happy with their tires. Give it a try, they will probably cooperate.------------------ Duane 71 Fastback (his) under resto (351C-4V C6 auto) 73 Mach 1 (hers) (351CJ 4 speed) 66 289/2V coupe (daughter Ashley's) 89 LX 2.3 convertible (daughter Amanda's) M & M Member #730

HEY DUANE, I will do that so I am sure there are no rubbing problems, but I have another question. I was told by another tire shop I was pricing tires at, that the 60 series tires are way to small for my car and will look very stupid on it. Have you or anybody else out there seen a 65 fastback with 215/60/14`s on the car on all four corners and how did it look? You might want to check my photo page for a tire comparison. There are a few pictures with 195/70-14's and then with 225/60-15's I think the large tires look much better and I really notice it in the corners. On some bumps I get a little bit of rub on both the front and back. The back is really not so much of a problem as the front. When turning and going over a bump, I have to be careful.https://mustangsandmore.com/ubb/RobertK.html ------------------ 67convertible 289/auto 65fastback 302/4sp [This message has been edited by Robert K (edited 04-10-2003).]
