I am going to buy a set of styled steel wheels for my 65 fastback at the Portland swap meet. I will get either the 14x5 or the 14x7, I have 205/75R/14`s on the car now. I will stay with the same size or go to 205/70R/14`s. What is the biggest size I can go to on each rim size. Also what size tire can I go to without it interfering with my steering and without having to roll the fenders? Thanks in advance for your replies JOHN

John, Don't rule out the 15 x 7 styled steel wheel, I think they have a 4" backspacing. Put a set of 225-60 on them. Mike

I should know this, but what do you mean by 4" backspacing? Please explain to this bonehead. JOHN ------------------ 65 2+2 FASTBACK 87 TAURUS WAGON 98 F150 XLT TRITON V8 4.6, 4 WHEEL DRIVE Member:Vancouver Island Mustang Association M&M #1710 MyPhotoPage MY TRUCK

Backspacing is the distance from the inside edge of the rim to the mouting surface. Actually, if you laid a straitedge across the rim diameter and measured down to the surface where the rim will come in contact with the brake drum, that is the backspacing. This dimension determines how far your wheels will stick out. Kinda lame description, but its the best I could come up with. 3 3/4 to 4 inch is a good number for a 65-66. More than 4", depending on the rim and tire, can get you into rubbing of the tire on the inside of the wheelwells. Hope I didn't confuse you. Mike

MIKE, You did not confuse me at all, kinda had an idea what was meant by backspacing, but you have now made it clear. I will probably go with the 14x7`s but I would like to see a car with these on them, also would like to see a car with the 225/60R/14`s on them, if anybody has a picture or site I can go to, I would really appreciate it. JOHN
