My 69 sportsroof (351W) fires up on the first crank when it's cold, but cranks and cranks and cranks before it fires when the engine has run and the temperatures are up.Is this a carb adjustment problem, electrical? I put a Petronix in it several months ago, and that's when I noticed dramatic improvement in how it started cold. Any suggestions? Thanks

You probably need to get under the hood while it's hot and do some investigating. Does the carb still have fuel? Do you have a good spark while cranking when hot?------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Alex has put you on the right track, do the testing to see why its not starting, it could be many things.I had a similar problem on my 68 (289) and it was down to a few things, mostly that the engine was running too hot (due to a bad thermostat and fan being to far away from radiator) Then i installed a new carb with a thermal spacer and have never had trouble since. Basically after switching off hot, the fuel in the float bowls of my old 2 barrel carb boiled off and it took a lot of cranking to get them to fill up. Like you I have never had cold start problems (usually thats a sign that ignition is OK but something is wrong with the fuelling)

Twice I have had a simular problem amd both times it was a bad carburetor float. It would start fine cold but had to crank and crank when warm.------------------ 69 mach I w/351c 91 f150 4x4 swb
