One of the things I need to upgrade on my car shortly is the alternator. I would prefer to obtain a unit from a wrecker and do the wiring changes myself as oppossed to a mail order kit. I have found a few references to a 3G alternator from a 94-95 mustang that will be a direct bolt in. How do I identify one these units when on a shelf? Does the part number start with 3G? If not what is 3G refering to? These would use serpentine belt drive, does my V-pulley swap accross? Are there other cars that have these alternators? My 95 Cougar with a 4.6 uses an entirely different style. Is it as simple as finding a ford alternator with a serpentine pulley, a "100A" or "140A" stamped in the case, and a case that looks like my existing unit? I need a little more output at idle to run my electric fans. Thanks, Ken
