A friend of mine bought a motor from a guy, said it was a 289. We take off the intake manifold, Block Casting says "302". The crank number was "1M" which I think means 289? Is that right. There was a tag on the motor with numbers stamped in it:
289 E 68 16
E21 K 236-J

Anybody know what all that means?

It's a 289, built in a 302 block. Not much difference between a 289 and a 302 block.
