For the 6 I would suggest you leave it alone. Several years ago before I made my car a V8 I put the new rear end in first. Factory 3.50 gears. That little six doesn't turn many rpm's. At 60mph it was close to tapped out. Within 4 months I threw a rod completely out the side. The motor was only 1 yr old when it blew.

My six had a 2.79 8". You could go 3.00 or 3.25 with no problem & get a little more low-end.

I bought a 66 6 cyl cv sometime back, and it had a 3 spd. Changed it over to auto. The orig gear in back was a 3:20, I believe. It turned out to be a peppy car.

Didn't most of the I6's come with 3.20 open?

I know all the 68's we have had with I6's had the 320 in the rear.

We have most of the parts to build nice I6.

Machined Block,crank & rods,Head (2),headers,Clifford Cam (#93-2061), small 4bbl carb & adapter ect..the only thing missing is the pistons.

one of these days
