i am starting to work on the minor body rust on my car and was wondering about something. there is rust along the roof where the chrome trim is attached on both sides it is starting to rust through the roof along the top of the trim. i was wondering what is the best way to atack this. will i have to pull that trim off and weld some metal in or what. were that trimm attaches above the door just seems like a place where water can stand and i am worried it is rusting the roof from the inside out. also what is the best way to deal with small rust holes. thanks

I have the same problem, some of mine is cancer in the roof rail. I have no idea how to fix it, maybe just sand it, file it, POR15(or similar product), self etching primer, and your done, but wait for a pro to post, mines justa guess. It seemes like it would be almost impossible to weld a new piece of metal in. ------------------ Alan 1966 Tahoe Turquoise A-Code Coupe 650cfm Holley 4bbl / petronix ignition / missing valance / sanded to bare metal

A skilled metal worker can certainly make up and weld in patches for the drip rail. In fact, it's gotta be the best way to go. You may also find, as I did, that you also have rust spots on the roof side, facing the drip rail. My fella fixed these up really nicely too. The really hard part, I found, was cleaning those drip rails prior to doing the metal work, especially with the rubbery strips that are stuck inside (on 68s, anyway). Having said that, if you never plan on driving your car in the rain again, some good preparation and zinc chromate primer (or similar) will probably see your car through the next 30 years.
