I am putting a set of rebuilt 65 heads (3-angle, hardened seats, mildly ported) on my 67 289. My rebuilder says that with the better wearing newer oils you don't need to use the hardened pushrods with the 65 style cast rockers. He says that with the mileage I would put on it (~1000 miles a year) the wear would be negligible and that most of the wear reported was with the poorer oils back in the 60s. I am not so sure I can part with my misgivings so easily. Any advice? Should I stick with the hardened pushrods or keep the later style? Thanks, Daniel

If you are not intending to use guide plates, your machinist is correct.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,&'03 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked."
