Tried to research this my own, but not able to get enough detail. I have a harmonic balancer that reads C8OE 6316 A2 SS. I was thinking of putting it on a 302, but want to make sure it belongs on a small block and has the correct balance for the 28 oz engine. Does anyone know what this went to, or where i can go to look it up? Best I was able to find by web surfing was it goes to a 68 fairlane, but engine type I couldn't determine. Thanks for any guidance.

I just checked four of my parts books and I couldn't come up with that number.

Thanks for checking. I might try calling a parts counter at a local dealership and see if they're willing to help on Monday. Things in great shape, just not sure if its correct. Otherwise, a refurbished one from Autozone is in the works.

BINGO! I just removed my old balancer and it reads C8OE 6316 A2 SS. Now I can't guarantee it's original, but it's on an otherwise totally original 68 302 4V.

C- 60S
8= 1968
0=FAIRLANE
E= ENGINE PART
I THINK!! it would have to be a 28oz balance because the 50oz did not come in till abouT 1981. i think!!!

Yup, the "O" is Fairlane, but I have one old source citing the original 65/6 289 damper as a C5O part - which wouldn't be surprising right? Weren't the early Stangs just disguised Fairlanes? Maybe Ford continued using Fairlane dampers for a while? Or does a C8Z damper exist?

There's LOTS of crossover with engine parts.
