I know the normal and suggested length of time for an oil change is 3000 miles or 3 months. But I also have heard its not really neccessary to change it that often. Say I have a car with 2000 miles and 6 months since last oil change...Should I change it now or wait at least 3000? Also, The engine has only 2500 miles on it, can I use Royal purple? What weight? And is buying Royal purple instead of havoline or valvoline or something like that worth the extra money? The engine is a 289

Thanks

On cars that sit a lot I prefer to use time rather than milage as an oil change barometer.
Yes you can use RP now. Use the 10-30 or 10-40 depending on your climate.

I have been involved in the manufacture of synthetic oil since 1975. It can be a great product for your car, but unless you are really, truly racing or just too lazy to change your oil on a regular basis, it is not going to do a lot for you. True it may give you a little better fuel mileage. On an older engine it may even cause leakage by starting to clean out deposits that are preventing those leaks.

I live in south carolina. I've heard that lighter weight oil frees up some hp. What weight do you suggest?
