73 302 2-V, totally stock. I am putting a new 'Pony Carbs' ( 2100) on my 73, and I want to keep this car as close to stock as I can. I am also installing the 'Pertronix Ignitor' for obvious reasons. I am almost positive that the EGR plate is carbon-plugged due to the fact that the valve still works as normal, yet it will not change the idling/running condition of the engine if you actuate the valve manually at idle. Is it necessary for the EGR to be functional? I know of some who have blocked it off with a metal plate under the base. Even though the car will not technically be running the emissions as required when new, will it in fact be more or less 'driveable'. If I want to keep the EGR blocked, would just leaving the plate plugged-up be an acceptable method? And what other aspects of the normal engine operation will be affected. Also, with the 'Pertronix Ignitor' installed, should I widen the gap on the plugs? The factory gap-spec for the motor is 0.35. Should it be around 0.50? Thanks.

Aside from increased emissions, it won't make any difference really. Tune your carb right and you're set.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Please remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, MyFordPerformance.com, and FordRamAir.com

Pertronix ignitor kit probably wont need a wider plug gap, firstly have you switched over to their coil? if you use a stock coil then I would stick to 0.035. Ive heard that running as big as 0.050 can cause problems with the spark jumping to the wrong place. My advice dont go any bigger than 0.040-0.045 with your set up even if you have an flame thrower coil. Measure it with the correct round style feeler gauges too, flat style feeler gauges can be misleading.
