I'm going to convert my front drums to power disc brakes on my 67. I was wonderig who sells a quality kit that will install without any problems? MP brakes, Stainless Steel brakes, Wilwood, Baer, which companies have quality components? I was going to do the Granada conversion but the nearest pick and pull don't have any more spindles or other parts. Should I convert to power disc brakes or just manual? Are manual disc brakes hard to stop? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.
Edit: I will also be installing 15X7 steel style wheels, will the brakes clear these wheels?

Hey Dude,

I bought the SSBC disc brake kit. Very good quality parts and stops great using a '74 Maverick master cylinder. It's a bit expensive brand new. I bought mine used from a person who was going to turn his mustang into a tube chassis mustang.

A few others will also recommend Wilwood and I've heard good stories about them too.

Baer is just too expensive.

SSBC is close to OEM.
Wilwood heavy duty is primo. Good fit, light weight, and great stopping power.
Both are priced comperably.

While we're on the topic, will the SSBC set-up work with the 14" Style Steel wheels on a '66? I know if you switch to the Granada set-up you have to dump the 14" rims for at least 15's. The reason I am asking is we are wanting to make a switch on my daughter's '66 and want to keep the original rims if possible.

Hey Alex,

How come Wilwood never got it approved by the DOT? I know they're great brakes and I have confidence in them too. Just makes me wonder. If I would've had to buy a new set, I would have gotten those.

Duane, I don't think the SSBC kit will work with 14" rims. In fact I put 17" Cragar SS on my 65 with the A-120 kit and I had to have some metal turned off the mounting face of the front wheels, because they just rubbed the calipers. The diameter of the mounting face on the cragars was too big by about a 1/4 inch. I would call SSBC and ask before I ordered the kit if I was staying with 14" rims. Ernie
