I'm new to this forum, but couldn't find any past questions that deal with this: I'm switching my 66 mustang from automatic to 5 speed (Tremec) and am adding power brakes. My problem comes in pedal installation. I was going to simply add a clutch mount to the existing brake mounting bracket...then I realized the power booster is much larger than the original brake reservoir...which means it'll probably interfere with the clutch linkage(equilizer rod?) as it runs through the firewall . Granted, I didn't have a clutch in there before I tore things apart, so I'm not sure exactly where things will run, but wanted to see if anyone has done this before to help ease my pain . Anyone have ideas, comments, or suggestions?-Neal

Welcome to M&M! I don't run a power booster, but many early stickshift cars were optioned with power brakes... I'd think that if you were to get your hands on a or '66 z-bar and booster you'd be just fine ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

Did that exact conversion but on a 67 but 66 should be no different. Todd is correct, actually the issues you may run into are: - Z bar to Non-stock exhaust clearance - Clearances between exhaust tubes and custom transmission cross-member - Driveshaft length - Some later SB engine do not have the threaded hole on the side for the z bar pivot stud (not an issue if original engine) - Installing the clutch return spring on a 67 was a B*tch !! I think 66 is easier - Another problem that I ran into afterward: since you have to convert to a flywheel, make sure that your engine has not been customed balanced before otherwise you will get vibration even with a flywheel perfectly within the ford specs

I have a 65 fastback 351W, T5, Lincon Versais 9" discs all around (manual). I am also wondering about a compatable brake booster.Originally I used the factory Zbar clutch linkage, later I converted to a "roll your own" type cable linkage that uses the factory firewall hole and a cable from a 80 something mustang. I much prefer the cable linkage because during power shifts you dont feel the clutch pedle shifting around as the motor lifts. If you find a compatable booster please let me know. If you have any swap specific questions feel free to ask Good luck
