Restoring a 68 S code convertible. Took the top frame off and have found that a number of parts differ (the two main side rails have completely different hinge styles) and that some of the bow adjustments don't match descriptions in the shop manual.I believe there were a number of changes to the top frames from 65-68 and am trying to find detailed info on what my top should look like. Rather replace the needed bits than the whole frame as most of it is in good shape. Finding a complete top frame in Australia may be tough and air freighting a whole frame from the states is pricey! Any info appreicted.

Not as serious as you may think. For example, my now sold yellow 68 cv had a 64.5 top. The original was bent and I found the 64.5 for cheap. The hinges are different. The bows can be moved up and down to accomodate a new top. I was able to order a Robbins(the best IMNSMO)top for a 68. and it fit very well. The differences don't show when top is installed. I just bought a 67 top for my 66. One word of caution. If you should determine that your top bows are for an earlier car, don't order an earlier top. The tack strips in the rear are different and the drain gutter is configured to allow for this. The 67/8 window is installed last while the 65/6 window installs first. Your tack strips are designed for the latter top. If you're able to put a pic of the top frame on line it would be good to see it. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks for the info on the stripes, but I already have the width info. Really trying to find out if "original" had the louvered inserts fully painted, or just the stripes running down inside the insert at the same width. Also if the grille inserts were painted stripe color or not. I've seen examples of all these and am wondering if there was any standard.Details, details, details ..... ;-)

Welcome!I have an original dealer brochure that show the stripe petty clearly in a least 3 shots showing the stripe continuing in the recessed area. It looks like the same width as the stripe and not the whole insert. Don?t know about the grill but I did mine black to keep thing uniform looking.
