The gear under the car I'm after has a 3.00 open gear in it. Looking for info on good all round set up to play on the street and also drive it to work sometimes also some interstate travel. I'm guessing a trac-loc setup but not sure on the ratio. When completed, a warmed up 351W,C-4 tran.,mild cam, will live under the hood. Just fishing for ideas from others with a simular set up.
Thanks in advance!!
John

I agree. For a cruiser it's hard to beat 3.50/3.55s.

Don't go over 3.55! I like the 3.20 range myself.

I like to drive 80 on the interstate, and I've got 3.91's in my Fairlane, and it's a bit too much at that speed. I'd have to vote 3.50 or go for an AOD conversion.

Yeah those do have OD.
The older stuff doesn't though.
They aren't driven in the snow.
Neither is the McLaren come to think of it.

I'd think 3:27 or even numerically lower if you really drive the car as your daily driver 10,000 miles a year and all at Highway speeds.

I'm expecting to end up 3:55 or 3:73ish in my 'stang myself, but I'll only drive it 5,000 miles or so a year and still keep my Olds for the my overdrive beater with a heater and touch screen computer.

I run 3.89s but still recommend 3.50s for non-OD cars.

Overdrive

My 3.89 gears "turn into" 2.64's on the Highway in fifth gear.

I would not run that short of gears if I had no OD, though.

3.70's... perfect street gear w/ four speed trans; 2.78:1 first gear launches plenty hard and 1:1 high gear only turns 3200 rpm @ 70 mph on 26" tall tires

Looks like the 3.50 T-Loc will be what I need. 80 seems to be the sweet spot for the Powerstroke so the Mustang will be seeing it on the Interstate too.
Sorry Moneymaker,,,Girlyman gears, I know, but I need something streetable not neck snapable, wife may want to drive it sometime, ( I hope not)!!
Well one question answered and a million to go, Thanks for the response on this.
