I am looking at switching my daughter's '66 289 mustang over to a duraspark distributor and have the opportunity to buy a used one (with the coil, but no module) for under $30. The numbers on the duraspark are #12127 stamped on it and also #E2AE-122131-CA. What does this fit and does the price seem right? Or am I better off going to NAPA and getting a complete rebuilt one, with a matching coil and module? Also, if I go through NAPA, what year/model should I buy for her car (or will they know at the store)?

Duane that's a '82 model.

Just get a distributor and module from a late '70s v-8. Like a '76 Ford Granada w/302 engine. That's what we ran on Melissa's, and we used it to trigger a Crane HI-6, but I've also used the duraspark module and it worked fine too. Just didn't have a rev limiter. If you have a pick&pull around you can get it all for 30-40 bucks.

When you run the duraspark, don't use the vac advance and open the distributor up and use the shortest mechanical advance "window", and lighten up the springs a little.

E-mail me if you want more tips,

Thanks for the reply Steve!! We have several u-pull-its in the Portland area, so I will hit them up and find a set-up from a mid/late 70's 302 Ford.
I may shoot you an e-mail once I get ready to install it.
Thanks again!!!
