I just got back from the 9th annual 'Silver Spring' all-Ford and Mustang show in Ocala, Fl. There were over 1,000 Fords there! About 850 were Mustangs. Some excellent cars. Dennis Gage from 'My Classic Car' was there filming for an upcoming show. He came by my car and asked me a bunch of questions while his cameraman filmed it, but I don't think he will use it. He seems to have an affinity for early convertibles. On another note, there were several 71-73's there that had the 'ram-air' systems fromLeon Grice @ 'Fordramair.com', and the quality of the stuff looks excellent! The rubber gaskets look perfect, and are much better than any original I have seen. The under-hood 'plenum' part of the system is a perfect match for the real thing! Surprisingly, it looks a lot better and is more accurate than the 'original-supplier' plenum NPD has been selling for a couple of years now. I am definately getting a couple of his systems for my other cars. One of Leon's 'shaker' systems was there on a 70 Mach, and it looked so good that I could not tell it wasn't the real thing. I'm not as familiar with the 69-70's, but that thing looked damn good! There were a bunch of new Mach 1's there, at least 8-10. They all looked great! The new steel 'NACA' hood was there on display at the NPD booth, and it looks very good. should be a big seller! Surprisingly, I had the only 429 CJ Mustang(or Cougar for that matter!)there, but there was one BOSS 429....Sweet! If someone is going to start on a restoration of a Mustang, I strongly suggest that you go to as many large shows like this as you can, and wander around and ask all the little questions you thought nobody knew. You'll get some great ideas for your own project, and some tips that will make your restoration a lot easier.

Did you get to meet Rick from NPD? He is a great guy with plenty of nice mustangs in his own stable. He is also one of the major sponors of the Silver Springs show and a member of M&M. Sounds like you had a great. Wish we could have made it over, but it is not in our budget right now. Hope that you were able to take some pictures to share with all of us poor folks that couldn't go. That's awesome, I hope your car makes it onto the show!! How did you like the show overall? I've heard that it is one of the nicer shows in that region. I'm glad to hear you got a look at the "ram air" system from "Fordram air", because I've been wondering how they appear on the car and it sounds like you give them a ringing endorsement. I will definately be buying one for the '71 when I get started on it's restoration. I'm also excited to hear you got a look at the NACA/NASA (your choice) hood from NPD and that you thought it looked good, because I will definately be ordering up one those real soon as well. BTW, how did your Mach do in the show? Any trophies? No, I didn't meet anyone from NPD there. I was at the table they had set-up, but they were very busy and didn't appear to have a lot of chit-chat time. As far as being on the Dennis Gage show, I really don't think it's gonna' happen. He only asked me a few unenthusiastic questions and was on his way. I followed him and his crew around for a while, and he really seemed to put the effort into the earlier models. Thats OK. Whatevers best for the show. As far as winning a trophy, I can't because it is a two-day show and I didn't want to stay overnight, so we all came home. I have several kids, one an infant, so it's a little tough being outside all day with them. Plus, for some unexplainable reason, the wife and kids don't seem to find the sheer enjoyment of standing in front of a perfect strangers car for hours on end and talking about what kind of lug-nuts are on his car, or why I used #720 springs instead of #680's on mine, and things like that. Go figure. This may not sit well with 'purists', but my car doesn't do well when judged by 'MCA' judges. There are just too many things that I tried to make look stock, but on close examination, are not. But when judged 'People's choice', my car always does extremely well. I have won many of those awards. Sometimes it really pisses off the owners of cars that are much-more 'correct' than mine, but thems' the braks I guess. Bright Red, Black trim and real shiny chrome is a hard combination to beat on a sunny day!
