What do you all own for radios? With my custom kick panels I'll have two 6 X 9's in the rear deck, and a couple four inch circle speakers down low in front. In my daily driver (Olds) I have a Pioneer DEH-7400MP squeezed where it folds up in the ashtray. I've gotten used to the MP3's on CD and like the volume of the 50watt X 4 output w/o all the wiring of a seperate amp. I'd love to get something that loud that will do MP3's AND have it look right in my 68's dash. Any recommendations?

I bought one of the aftermarket Clarions that was made to fit in the dash of the '66. I put 6x9 Pioneers in the back and put small Pioneer speakers behind the AC unit pointed outward so that I didn't have to cut the kick panels.

The Mach1 still has the original AM and the Ranchero still has the original AM/FM. They'll stay that wat too. My hearing is shot from loud exhaust and other assorted forms of audio abuse such as Lead Zeppelin, van Halen, Def Leppard, etc...------------------ -Paul 70 Mach1 351C 79 Ranchero GT 97 Expedition XLT 5.4 00 SVT f150 Lightning 4149 of 4966 Born on: 06/26/2000 'life's tough... it's tougher if you're stupid.'

I have a Custom Auto Sound direct fit $200 cheapie with 2 6x9's in the rear and a 2 cone/channel single speaker in the front. Ain't going to come close to winning any stereo contests but it's not bad for what it is - I seldom use it anyway, prefer listening the beautiful music of the ol' 289 at work.------------------ 1965 K-code coupe 1987 LX 5.0 notch

I'm the odd one I guess. I have a Denon Cd player in my '70, with Jensen 6x9's in the rear quarter panels. No, I did not do any of the cutting to my car to fit the stereo, or rear speakers, it was done about 15 years by the P.O. I will be getting a new stereo though, something with more wattage. It always blows people away to hear I have a CD player in my classic Mustang. ------------------ Gary M.- 1970 Mustang Deluxe SportsRoof (daily driver), 1946 Ford pickup, 1947 Ford pickup, 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Town Vic

A CD player that looks right is impressive. I'd even go with a changer in the trunk and a casette player in the dash if I can find an MP3 changer combo that fits.

I put a full-on Pioneer system in my 68 coupe back in 1992. I used a hacked up radio face plate that came in a parts car...and hacked it up some more. The high output cassette deck has a removable faceplate and drives a pair of 6" triax speakers in the rear package tray. Hiding in the trunk is a box with two shelves that I built to hold the 8" woofers and hold the 200W amplifier and a 6-disc CD changer. The changer is controlled by the deck. All of the wiring is routed either under the carpet along the tunnel or under the passenger side sill plate. The installation is very clean but took me awhile to do.Dave ------------------ Dave 68 Coupe, 289, restomod in process 68 GT Fastback, resto in process 97 Cobra .vert, daily driver

IMHO, the only way to go is to keep the original radio and put a CD player in the glovebox. I had cars that look classic then there's a new radio in the dash, it looks ugly. And not only that, you're less likely to get break-ins because people can't see it (if you were to leave it in a parking lot, I don't know who much you drive it).
