For 1971, the optional power window controls switches were a one year only design. They resembled large rocker switches arranged all in a row, making a long, narrow panel. For 72 & 73, the switches were changed to the smaller, squared-off grouping style of swithces common to other Ford products. The hole in the door panels for the switch is a different size and shape depending on which set-up it came with. So here's my question: Does anyone know if any late 71's were made with the newer 72-style switches, or if any early 72's were made with the older 71-style switches. I have seen a couple of cars that seem to have the wrong year switches installed, and they are represented as original. So, once again, its either a case of Ford using up old parts, or making a running change in the middle of production. Or maybe the switches were added by the current owner and he didn't know of the differences in year model details. By the way, for those of you that remember my other post about 'Yellow Mach', he claims to have a 71 Mach with manual roll down quarter windows that he ordered new. We all know that Ford did not make the fastback with manually operateed quarter windows. It is an easy conversion using all the hardware from a hardtop, so it certainly looks 100% accurate. But it ain't right.

It was my understanding that the rocker switch style was 71-2, and the smaller switches (which I find hideous) were for 73 only. I remember that I had a hell of a time trying to find the window lock switch, but I had no problem getting the individual window switches at all. The PW setup that I have came from a 72 Q-code Mach that I stripped when I was in college. The owner of the junkyard told me I could take whatever I wanted off the car for $50 if I could fit it in my car, so I spent 6 hours out there taking everything that I could remove. Luckily, back then my entire tool box was ALWAYS in the trunk of the car. The guy about sh*t himself when I drove out of the yard, 'cause my 71 fastback was packed to the roof, and I could barely drive the car...those were the good days......

Upon focusing on my hazy memory, I believe you are correct, and the change was made in 73. Thank you for kick-starting my 'thinker.'
