Everything on my mustang is set up for the 289 except my 50 oz. balancer and pulley.I bought the pulley so that I could use the balancer and the rest of my pullies would line up.I want to go to the later water pump so I can use my 302 timing marks which is on the right side and I can use the cross flow radiator. So I need to know if I should buy the reverse rotation water pump? Are they the same size so my pullies will still line up? Thanks,Tony

Are you sure that's what you want? My 5.0L has early timing cover, pulleys and conversion harmonic. The water pump inlet is on the passenger side and the pointer is on the drivers side. The index works out correctly.

You can check your harmonic index by setting #1 to TDC and seeing where it initially indicates zero degrees. Mine indexes on the drivers side; meaning the water pump inlet needs to be on the passenger side.

Hi Jeff, Yes I think I need the water pump outlet on the drivers side. I have a 86 HO 302, 86 302 50 oz. harmonic balancer,66 timing cover, 289 water pump and the harmonic balancer pulley you can buy that lines everything up. I put the motor together like this because I knew one day I would buy a cross flow radiator with the outlet on the drivers side. Also so I can use my air conditioner. I hope this makes sense.
Any car show going on down in Moore? We`ll have to get together sometime.
Thanks, Tony
