Has anybody switched over to the newer style rotary compressor or converted from R12 to the 134A refrigerant? Was it straightforward or did you hit any snags?------------------ Ed S. 68 S-code FB GT 4spd(now C6)/3.25 PS PDB 68 J-code(now 289) Cp Sprint"B" C4/3L00-9" PDB PS AC 99 F150 XLT Ext/cab, 4X4, 5.4L, 3L55 95 Exploder XLT with the works! there is a replacement for r-12 that you can buy for about $7 per can. if you just have a leak, that is the way to go. i understand that it works just as good as r-12. the brand name on what i got was freeze 12. you can get it at most any parts store.------------------ mike r racing is real everything else is just a game. 81 capri-7.51 @89mph 1/8 1.54 60 ft. http://prestage.com/site/site_display.asp?SiteID=141

Did both on a 65. Sanden rotary with 134. It is cold but not as cold as R 12. Hearing a lot of xnays on the 12 or whatever AC freon substitue. I don't think that Classic Air or Vintage Air approve it. Like to hear more on the subject.

Did you use a kit or did you piece it together? The car I was thinking of doing this to already has factory air. quote: Originally posted by mellowyellow: Did both on a 65. Sanden rotary with 134. As you are all aware, R-12 has been banned, Unless you have a black market source, you can't get it. The change for your air-con system is inevitible. I did mine last summer. You don't necessarily have to change your compressor, but you do have to change the freon after a good flushing. Other posts here have the exact procedure. Moneymaker can lead you to those posts.

I was thinking of changing to the newer style compressor because it?s supposed to be lighter and steal less HP. The car came with three old style compressors in the trunk if I wanted to use one.

I simply had the old R-12 taken out and had them add the new. After a good drying, and repair of one hose that was leaking. Mine cools just fine in my 65 with the old compressor.
