I've got one and it's pretty cool looking, but the biggest problem is the color is all wrong. Rather than the yellow the diecast is, it should have been "Light Yellow Gold" (looks like ginger color) of the original car.------------------ Duane 71 Fastback (his) under resto (351C-4V C6 auto) 73 Mach 1 (hers) (351CJ 4 speed) 66 289/2V coupe (daughter Ashley's) 89 LX 2.3 convertible (daughter Amanda's) M & M Member #730

Are you sure that 'Eleanor'(original) was light yellow gold? The paint scheme on the car was obviously custom, and the die-cast seems a pretty close match. By the way, did you happen to notice that the 'real' Eleanor is actually a 71/2 that has had the 73-style grille added? In several shots, the 73 parking lights in the grille are not working, but the 71/2 parking lights under the front bumper are on! Surprisingly, the 'ERTL' die-cast is pretty accurate in this respect, even though it is inaccurate insofar as what is correct for a 'stock' 73. ERTL also has a series of 'stock' Mach 1's made from the same castings, but there are some terrible mistakes on them: The Mach 1 hoods all have cowl vents close to the windshield(?), and they have the 69 lanyard-style hood pins on them. At the rear, there are 'FORD' 'chrome' block letters across the trunk lid. Those models did not ever say Ford anywhere on the outside of the car. And they put some non-descript mags on them. There are 71 Mach 1's availible from 'Sun-Star', and they are very accurate, and cheaper too!

I got one for Christmas. Thanks Mike! Duane, you are right, it is painted light yellow instead of the tan Eleanor was. It's not even close to Eleanor on my DVD. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Be sure to remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, and Osborn Reproductions.

Tan? TAN? What 'Eleanor' are you reffering to? The 73' version is bright yellow.

Sorry to disagree with you cobravenom, but the original movie Eleanor was definately not yellow, but instead was painted the ginger color they called "Light Yellow Gold" or "Light Goldenrod" (paint code 6B). I have an original color chart from '73 and that is what is shown to be the correct color for that car. And as far as being a custom paint scheme, I have seen probably 5 original (unrestored) '73 Mach 1's of the same color in the past year alone, all painted the same way.------------------ Duane 71 Fastback (his) under resto (351C-4V C6 auto) 73 Mach 1 (hers) (351CJ 4 speed) 66 289/2V coupe (daughter Ashley's) 89 LX 2.3 convertible (daughter Amanda's) M & M Member #730

OK, I can agree that 'Eleanor' may not be 'Bright Yellow', but I certainly don't think it was tan! When the movie pemiered,(in Houston)'Eleanor' was on display for a week or so at the movie theatre, and I have since seen it several times at other various displays. It sure did appear to be yellow. I'm not disputing the fact that it may be a factory color, but has that info ever been stated anywhere? Is it not possible that it was painted some generic shade of yellow when it was put back together? As a side note, it has been stated in several publications that there was only one 'Eleanor', but that is absolutly untrue. If you watch the DVD-extras carefully, and just watch the car during the movie it is obviuos that there was at least two, maybe even more. Sadly, Toby Halicki was killed in Buffalo, New York while filming the sequal. A Ford dealer that I worked for at the time (Colonial Ford, Tonawanda, New York) sold his production company about 50 or so various used vehicles to be used in the making of movie. The vehicles were bought by his comapny on 'spec', and were not actually physically inspected beforehand. Unfortunately, the owners of the dealership (Tom and A.J. Peroni) were the biggest f***in' crooks in the car business, and sold them basically junk. Most of the cars were missing important items like engines, or wheels, or interiors or doors. They most certainly were not drivable, even for just a few feet for a stunt or crash scene. So, Halicki's company and the dealer were involved in a lawsuit, but when he was killed during filming, it all seemed to just go away. I definately don't mind naming the a$$hole owners of the dealership, because they ripped off a lot of hard working people who worked for them, me included. They got me for about $8,000 in pay, plus I got ripped on a car I bought from them. In 89, I bought a A beautiful low-mileage Black 87 Turbo coupe 5-speed. After everything else, it turns out that the T-bird was sold new by this dealership to a rental car company they owned in the Bahamas. This car was reported stolen by the rental car company, along with many others, and they collected the insurance money. Many of the vehicles ended up back in the states with altered titles and such, and resold. The dealership was shut-down by a federal judges order, and in 1993, I got a visit from some oficials, and to cut to the chase, The car was seized by the government for thier case aginst the Peroni's. I had kept this car in meticulous condition and it had only about 35,000 miles on it at the time. There is not much that I can do legally, but I can garantee that if I ever run into either one of them in the future, I will most definately extract 'my pound of flesh.'

You can see pictures of the car here, even though they are small they still give you a good idea of the color.http://www.gonein60seconds.com/ ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Be sure to remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, and Osborn Reproductions.

Steve, on that website the car looks the same color to me as it does everywhere else-yellow. Try as I might, there is no way that I can that car resembling anything close to 'tan'. Oh well.

Are you sure Eleanor isn't medium yellow gold code # 6C? My 72 Mach is this color and i thought it was the same color as eleanor. Eleanot definetly isn't bright yellow though.

I think your color is the one, Rick. If it was faded like Eleanor, I think it would be a dead match. I ought to drag the DVD out and look at it again.------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Be sure to remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, and Osborn Reproductions.

Yeah, when I got mine there was no shine to it and it did look more brownish and darker, without the gloss.

OK, I have looked at the DVD, an original VHS I've had for years, and at photo's in several various books, and they all seem to be yellow to me. If it is a Ford color, it looks most like the medium yellow, not the bright yellow. Question is, how does anyone know if it is actually an RPO color or not? Halicki may have just painted it some generic shade of yellow. I've never seen anywhere that it is conclusively a factory color. Considering how many other things on the car are obviously 'custom', the color of paint may be also. But I can still say this- it ain't tan!

I just watched it too. What a good movie! Beats the remake and Bullitt, too. Definitely the best car chase movie ever. I love the era of cars you see in this movie. Too bad they had to wreck any of them. I love hearing Eleanor revving! Rick, I do think it's the same color as your Mach 1. To me, the gold looks tan so that's why I called it tan. Eleanor is a hodgepodge, that's for sure. It's a '71 or '72 with a '73 grille, the hood is painted incorrectly with a single wide strip that goes all the way to the front of the hood, stopping just before the hood molding. The car has the '71 Mach 1 stainless steel gas cap, and the entire rear is blacked out like a Boss 351. It has hoodpins and lanyards, instead of the proper pop-up hood latches, which it wouldn't have had anyway with the flat hood. The hub caps don't seem right, either. The appear polished chrome, and not the spun finish you see on Machs. They obviously used cars with both the standard and deluxe interiors, because you see both in different scenes. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 - '72 Mustang Sprint - '94 F-150 Remember our sponsors, Mustangs Plus, NPD, Osborn Reproductions, and MyFordPerformance.com.

Steve, I agree with your assesment of the movie. It is definately my favorite. A little dialogue up front, and then wham! All action! BTW, the entire soundtrack on the DVD has been replaced. It was remixed and changed when it was mastered for DVD. If you want to hear the original soundtrack, you have to watch an old VHS copy. The newer VHS's feature the remixed soundtrack also. I think the engine sounds on the DVD are much better than on the original VHS, which really doesn't have all that great sounding engine sound. Plus they removed a couple of painfully sappy 70's-era 'mood' songs from the original("Not gonna' let the man catch me!")that really date the movie today. The newer soundtrack makes it a little more tolerable. I gave my old VHS away when I got the DVD, but when I found out they changed everything, I 'de-gifted' the recipient of the old copy. Does any one remeber this commercial:? "No my brother, you gots' to buy your own." (It was for some compilation record for disco or something. 'De-gifting' made me think of it.)
