I guess I might get more response if I asked this over at Sam's place or late model, but I'd like to know if the dark highland green on the new Bullitt cars is the same color as what was painted in 68.If so, would it make any difference to order paint based on the new code vice the old? I'm definitely going with highland green on my fastback this time around. I'm undecided on the 67 Shelby style hood, Gary's comments have made me nervous about how much expense I'll have tied up in making the fiberglass hood fit and look good. I should have a good bit of cash in the paint fund when I get back from my 6 month deployment in July, and the wife has given permission to get a small loan to cover expenses if the paint fund runs dry before the new paint does. So, looks like I'll have quite a project in the works for when I return. Oh boy!!!

No, the paint on the new 'Bullitt's' is most definately NOT the same as '68 Highland green. It appears to be fairly close until you put both cars side by side. The new color is much lighter. It is a regular current Ford truck color, which I suppose helped Ford keep costs down a little. However, it looks excellent on the new car, so unless you think they have to be the same, there is no problem. Strangely, the 'Bullitt' was also offered in Black and 'True Blue', but considering the genesis and noteriety of the car, I can't see why anyone would want one in any other color than green. An aquaintence has a black one, but it kinda' just looks like a regular GT unless you really look at it. Personally, I think Ford should have made the 17" 'Bullitt-Torque Thruster' style wheels an exclusive to the 'Bullitt'. It was availible on all GT's, diluting the impact of the 'Bullitt'. That type of marketing BS has been in Ford's 'genes' forever, so I guess it comes as no surprise. Hopefully, the new pseudo-Magnum styled wheels will be exclusive to the new Mach 1. I don't find them particularly attractive, but thet should still be limited the Mach 1's. If they had some kind of 'dish' to them, I think they would look much better, but I think aerodynamics dictate a relatively flat surface. What surprises me the most about the new Mach 1 is the fact that there is not a blacked-out honeycomb panel on the back of the car, which is definately a Mach 1 styling cue, from 70-73. Even more surprising is the fact that Ford already has the tooling for a new panel since a black-out honeycomb panel was availible only a year or so ago.It would probably have been a simple matter to change the GT flat to a Mach 1 flat. It would have been nice if they could have included something reminiscient of the grille-mounted sportlamps, which was standard equipment on every single Mach 1 except the 69's. Someone explained to me that Ford wanted to stick to the 69 Mach 1 'memory', but that doesn't make sense because the 'Mach 1' emblems on the new car are based on the 70 and up style logo, the hood stripe is closest to the 1970 style, and Magnums were only availible on 71 and 72 Machs. I just realized how far off-topic I am, so I will be shutting up now....
