On my 2100 carb, there are no hoses or springs, other than the bimetal choke housing spring on the choke. The choke plate moves freely and the choke spring works (checked with a blow dryer). The diagram I have shows a choke clean air tube on the carbs air horn but nothing is connected to it. It also shows a vacuum piston housing but there isn't a way to connect anything to it. Also, the choke tube from the exhaust manifold doesn't get hot even after the engine has been running. Should there be a vacuum hose somewhere to work the choke?------------------ 1969 Mustang Sportsroof 302 with 3 Speed Stick !!!Totally Stock!!!

If the choke preheater tube does not get hot the choke will never open. Does your engine have a water manifold carb spacer that has heater hoses going to it? ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00, '01, & '02 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Sorry Alex, I forgot to mention that along with the hot air tube, my car has the heater hose that is clamped against the choke housing.

Is there an internal vacuum source that draws hot air through the choke tube? Maybe this could be clogged?

Yes there is and yes it was. I took the choke assembly completely off and sanded all the pivot points and lubed them and the internals with 3 in 1 oil. I removed and flushed out the choke tube with carb cleaner and shot a good blast through the vacuum port on the carb and choke. About 4 inches of insulation has come off of the choke tube near the carb and my cap doesn't have a mark on it to line up with the index marks on the housing so I'll have to mess with that a little more. Seems to be working though. Hopefully I'll be able to start it and come back in the house in the morning while it warms up. Brrrrrr.
