...assuming of course that it hasn't been decked. That's the factory spec; likely to be plus or minus a few thou front to back and bank to bank ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

There are some 73-76 blocks that have a 8.229 deck height. These could lower cr if you don't compensate with pistons and/or heads.------------------ My Mustang My next engine

My D1ZM Mexican block had that 8.23" deck height... But had to be cut 0.058" down to 8.17" because of some #^%$% Probe pistons.I hope there's still enough metal in the decks for the 1/2" ARP studs to keep the Loc-Wire gaskets in check when the 200hp shot of the bottle is letting it's presence be known. Mustangboy: Two books I have both indicate 73-76 blocks with the taller height. Neither of them specifiy a given casting #. However, I would guess that D1, D4 and D5 blocks are all possible. I'm not even sure going strictly by the assembly date would be a valid way to confirm. I should think the only way to be sure is to have it measured by your machine shop.N2OMike: I'm glad you let me know about your Mex block. My Mex with an assembly date of 4K17 and a casting # of 75ZY-6015-AA has not been machined yet. I now wonder if mine too has the taller deck height. ------------------ My Mustang My next engine
