How would one go about putting a 6 speed in a 68' stang? Im running a toploader right now. But the car feels like its just YEARING for an extra gear to play with. So I have been looking into eiter a T-56 or a Richmond 6 speed. Custom Bellhousing? I think Darhorseperformance.com sells the tranny with the bellhousing for a 289/302/351(Im running a 351C in my 68'). I have their Hyd clutch t/o bearing and master cylinder for it(works on the toploader too). So I am curious. Has anyone done this? Will it even fit? where can you get the custom driveshaft? How about the splines? will they match up? Im anxious to tackle this project if it is possible at all.

I guess you have more time and money than I do. My 5 speed can cruise at 120 MPH at 4000 RPM. Where in the U.S. can you go any faster than that at sustained speeds?

I think I'd look at differential modifications before I'd spend the money on a 6 speed tranny. Dang, you'd be driving like a truck driver. lol

Right now with the 4 speed I am doing about 65@2900 rpm. Differential is 3.55's
I just want a 6 speed because I want a 6 speed. Thats all. i think it would be fun.
And they are only about 600 or 700$ more than the tremec 5 speed is anyhow. So why not do it right eh? hehe

The problems I see with most 6 speeds are they really don't provide any advantage over the 5 speeds. Most of the 6 speeds have such large 6th gears (double overdrive) its practically useless unless you're going 90 mph. The rest have smaller 6th gears than typical 5 speeds. Throw in the extra size, weight and costs and its quite a job.

Of course, the strenght of a good 6 speed is nice. I think they have an even higher torque rating than the Tremec TKO. But by the time I break my TKO I'll probably be wishing I had an auto, lol

The new Cobra has one in it and it has to be stronger than the T-5 or Tremec TKO. The engine in it is rated at 390hp and 390 ft/ponds.

they are bullitproof. And if I ever wander on out to Bonneville then it can come in helpful there too.

Woohoo!
Thats part of the plan. Then all there is left to do is buy the Truck Air Horn.
*Vroom* "shift"..*Vroom*"shift"..*Honk Honk*!! hehe
Overall cost of the job looks like its going to run upwards of about 4000$ including tranny, shifter, lakewood scattershield, custom driveshaft and new gears. I think tis worth it though. Nothins to good for my baby. hehe
