I was athe bone yard and ran across a f150 Ithink. It had a 360/390 family sticker on the valve cover and 360 below that. What are the differnces in the two and can and would you want this in a pony? Guy's asking 500 for motor and C6. Thanks MIke

A 360 is basically a .050" over sized 352. 360`s share the same bore size as a 390 (4.05"), but have a 3.5" stroke, compared to the 390`s 3.78". Also, the 332,352, & 360 used a longer, weaker con rod than the 390,427 &428`s. The 360`s were all low compression 2 barrel engines. Unless you have a original FE powered vehicle, that needs another FE to keep the car on the road (hopefully while your 428 CJ is being rebuilt ), I certainly would put this heavy slug in a Mustang.------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker under construction, 302 5 speed 59 Meteor (Canadian Ford) 2 dr sedan 332, auto 74 F350 ramp truck 390 4spd

The 360 is basically just a destroked 390.The 390 uses a 3.78 inch stroke and the 360 uses 3.50.The block is the same with a 4.05 bore. The 360 was only used in trucks and was not a performance engine. In stock form I don't think you'd want one of these in a stang. You could change the crank and make a 390 or even a 410 with the 3.98, 428 crank, all using stock ford parts.

ford just used a 390 block and piston with a 352 rod and crank to get the 360 displacement. if you want to use the motor you have a couple of options; 1: build a 390 or 410 motor from the basic block.(recomended) 2: turbocharge or supercharge the 360(a good way to go but expensive). or 3: keep it as a basically stock 360(i wouldnt do that, no power).

Thanks Guy's. I may just pass on the 360 I might have found another 390. Also, I guess you will need a set of 390 car manifolds or will the truck manifolds work on a 67 pony? I thought I had found a 460 and tranny for 2oo but someone already snatched it up. Doh! thanks again - Mike------------------ '67 coupe, factory R* code (Rust Code)

Mike, the 390 pass. car/PU truck exh. manifolds won`t work with the Mustangs shock towers. You would need either the very restrictive "390GT" exh. manifolds, the much better but expensive 428 CJ exh. manifolds, or my choice a set of headers,(cheaper, lighter & more efficent than the 428 CJ manifolds, WAY better than the 390GT pieces). However, FE engines that came in full sized cars & PU`s don`t have the extra horizontal exhaust bolt holes in the heads that the unibody cars normally require. Most of the 66& later heads have the cast in bosses at the exhaust ports, so you could drill & tap them yourself.A couple of other things to consider: The PU engines were low compression engines. I have a 76 390 4 barrel engine in my F350, these engines have the piston over .100" down the bore at TDC, so they are only about 8.0-8.5-1 compression. Also, beware of the pre 65 engines, the early blocks only have the 2 bolt motor mount pattern, used in the 58-64 cars. All the 65& newer blocks had the 4 bolt pattern, which you need to use the factory mounts. Don`t get me wrong, I love my old FE`s, but I`d hate to see you disappointed with a heavy slug of an engine. What are your plans for the car, & what engine is currently in it? There are lots of ways to build a quick 390 or 428 for your car, but the chances of finding a good running 390 (that hasn`t been rebuilt) is pretty slim. Don`t forget, the last 390 put in a pass. car was 71, PU`s used them until 76, so they are all pretty old now. Also, the 75&76 PU C6 is basically the same as the car models, but most earlier PU trans used a short tailhousing with a bolted on driveshaft flange (no slip yoke)------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker under construction, 302 5 speed 59 Meteor (Canadian Ford) 2 dr sedan 332, auto 74 F350 ramp truck 390 4spd

Thanks Rory. I really don't need a super high horse power car. I hate to sound like an idiot, but I like the sounds they make. I had a tired 78 302 in it before, and during the rebuilding of the car I just thought about finding a 460 or 390 for it. I may not go this route,I already have headers and intake and my C4 rebuilt....So I will continue to dwell on this. Thanks again mike
