This sounds like a daft question to me, but in my books, on e-bay etc. I sometimes come across a car that Ford used to build called a "Ford". For example some Mustang years were numbered on the production line along with Fairlanes, Falcons and Fords ... that kind of thing. Simon

I'm not sure, but I think that when people refer to a 'Ford', as you describe it, they are probably referring to an early-to-mid sixties Ford 4-door sedan. They had Fairlanes and Galaxies then, and I think the very cheapest one, maybe in the Fairlane line, was simply labled as a 'Ford', wiith no other lables. Maybe. On those lines, does anyone remember the Cadillac 'Calais' from the seventies? It was basically a stripped down Coupe DeVille(no vinyl roof, plastic seats, cheap hubcaps, etc...)with no Cadillac emblems, just 'Calais' emblems. Not too popular, as I remember. ------------------

If all it says on it is 'Ford', how do you know its an LTD? I think you are right-the 'stripper' LTD's were called simply 'Ford'.------------------

Yeah, I think your'e right. Actually, I've been looking for a 73' 'Ford'. It would be the mate to the starsky & Hutch Torino I have. Problem is,any that I've found are usually in good enough shape to command more than a few bucks, and I can't see buying a somewhat decent car, and then 'beating it up'(including caving in the roof and drivers fender) just to make it look 'authentic'. Plus, if I actually bought a 'Hutch' replica, I know my wife would divorce me for sure. Wait a minute..Geez, all I have to do is...------------------
