Has anyone ever seen a 71 Boss 302? I have seen plenty of pre-production photos, and in the Ford parts manual there is a description of the decal set for a 71 Boss 302. It looks exactly like the Boss 351 set, with 302 sub'ed.
I've heard rumors that Ford of Canada may have actually sold a few retail units, and I have seen a metallic green with argent Boss 302 at a car show in Toronto about 15 years ago. The owner claims he bought it new, but who knows.
I remember checking the car out pretty closely, and it looked identical to a Boss 351, right down to the 15" steel wheels w/ 2-piece hub-caps. I had never seen the 2-piece hub-cap set up on 15"x7" rims up until then.
It did not, however have a ram-air hood! Flat black, no pins. The air cleaner had a 'pop-off' valve on the side , similar to a non-ram air 69-70 Boss 302.
Where these real?

I have never heard of a 71 Boss302, but maybe (I doubt it) it is a real McCoy. Just check the VIN and do a search. If it has the "G" for the engine code, then you may have a Boss302. I suppose it is worth the time to verify the VIN. Bill

I have never come across more than planning stages for the '71 Boss 302. Now the '71 Boss 351 is another story.

Actually, if I remember correctly, "Mustang and Fords" did an article on an actual '71 Boss 302 that did escape from the factory. I can look for it, but I believe the article was done some time in the past year or so.

The engine code in the VIN would be the obvious way to check, but I haven't seen the car in 15 years.I didn't check the VIN when I saw it originally, as I didn't know what a rare find it would be.
