For example, if I search by the key words "68 Mustang console" I will get a certain selection on e-bay. But if I search by "Mustang console" I will get a bunch of console items with "68" in the subject line that don't appear if I do the first search.
Can any sellers explain how e-bay makes sure their items get hits?
I know I won an Autolite 4100 carb recently that didn't appear when I did a search for "Autolite 4100", but DID appear when I searched for "Ford carb". I got a great price and I figure it's 'cos no one else saw it.

Ebay matches all words in your search. That's why when you put in "68 Mustang Console" your getting fewer hits than if you put in only "Mustang Console". As far as your carb goes, if it was listed as "Ford Carb" only and you searched for "Autolite 4100" it wouldn't show up because "Autolite" nor "4100" is in the listing. That's why when I search for things for my 69, I do a search under "69 Mustang" and "1969 Mustang". If I search for "1969 69 Mustang" I only get hits with both 1969 and 69 in the list and you miss quite a few.

When I search for my Mach, I try 70 Mustang, 1970 Mustang, Mach 1, and Boss. It's surprising what on some and not on others. Often it doesn't make sense. I imagine they must have a HUGE traffic flow and it's admirable that it works as well as it does.

fastback 68,
are you also looking for 68 console parts?
Its slim pickings out there. I am having a difficult time with it.

When doing a search, there is a place to check off item and discription. Checking this off will allow the search engine to look at the whole ad and not just the item line.
