From the feedback I've been getting on my engine running hot tomorrow I`m removing my 289 heads off my 302 to redrill my steam holes in my heads. Do I have to keep the push rods and head bolts in order as they came out? Head bolts, no. Pushrods, rocker arms and pivots: YES. The valvetrain components 'wear' into one another, similar to piston rings seating into bores. Get yourself a cardboard box and punch 16 holes in it, patterned after the two cylinder banks (right and left). As you remove rocker stud nuts, piviots, rocker arms and pushrods, put the pushrod in the hole, set the rocker, pivot, and nut over the pushrod. Do all 16 like that, it keeps everything in sequence [This message has been edited by V8 Thumper (edited 11-02-2002).]
