OK - due to all the good advice here on the site - I have been talked into doing the exhaust a different way (I appreciate all the help from you guys!!)... I ordered the 2 1/2 mandrel bent rear from MAC that exits the GT valance, and am about to order the Dynomax Utlra flows. The question I have now is - will they fit under the car? I talked with dynomax, and they cannot say which cars it will fit - the dimensions are : 19" Long X 4 1/2" Deep X 9 3/4" Wide....My current setup is - flowmaster 40's (rusted out) and the dimensions are: 14" Long X 4" Deep X 9 1/2" Wide..... The length is what I am really asking you about... Will it be too long?? Thanks, Brian 65 Fastback

I'm not sure, but shorter is better.Personally, I'd probably go with mufflers that are made for a FOX mustang. They are generally shorter than the 'universal' mufflers offered by most companies. The mandrel bent units will give you a little more room to work, though. I see the recommended dynomax mufflers for 5.0's are #17222, and are the 19" overall, 14" can length. Oh, did you notice Dynomax has a $20 rebate on their mufflers that ends October 31? www.dynomax.com Check it out... ------------------ Mike Burch 66 mustang real street 302 4-speed 289 heads 10.63 @ 129.3 http://www.geocities.com/carbedstangs/cmml_mburch.html http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/healey/367 http://www.mustangworks.com/cgi-bin/moi-display.cgi?220

They will be long, but should still fit fine. The original 289 HIPO mufflers had very short muffler bodies. About 12-13 inches if memory serves me. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00, '01, & '02 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked."
