how can you tell the difference between 2 and 4V heads? where are the cast #'s? thank you

If you are talking about cleveland heads, in the upper corner next to the valvecover, there will be a raised number, either a 2 or a 4. That is how you tell. If there is no number, either someone ground it off, or they are newer 351m-400 castings and pretty much worthless.

Open chambers are round like the bore.

Closed chambers look like an orange slice. About 1/4 of the chamber is flush with the deck surface.
