The new engine is running, but the secondaries on the 4100 won't open. The carb appears to be working fine otherwise, the secondaries aren't binding. I'm pretty sure it's a vacuum issue, but could use some expert advice on where to look. The vacuum passage on the carb's lid is clear.

REMOVE THE REAR DIAPHRAM COVER AND INSPECT THE RUBBER DIAPHRAM ITSELF FOR PERFORATIONS.

If I've forgotten the secondary check ball or it fell out, would the secondaries open?

They would open sooner. I rarely ever set up a vaccum secondary Autolite anymore. The progressive mechanical linkage works so much better and is totaly trouble free.
