I have a 1979 351W in a 1970 Fastback everything was running fine then she started popping a little then nothing.I have a MSD 6al box, power is sparking from the coil (useing the white wire to and from ground). The distributor is the big cap Duraspark. I don't get any current to the plugs. All my connections are correct and working. Any suggestions?

See if you get any spark between the cap and coil wire? Also between the cap and plug wires. You may have a cracked or burned cap.

I have just replaced cap, rotor, and wires so that has been eliminated. What about the distributor? How do you tell if that is working properly?

No spark to the plugs means something wrong between the coil where you are getting a spark??? and the plug where you are not.

The only items between them are the wires, cap, and rotor. If these are replaced, then something is wrong with them.

The ??? above is whether you actually got a spark from the coil or you are just getting a signal TO the coil. If no spark from coil (and this makes sense) then your coil is bad. Replace the coil.

The way you are saying you checked for spark by grounding the white wire says that the MSD Box and coil is working, if you connect everything back up and spin the motor over and do not get a spark from the coil wire there is something in the system that has failed. I have never ran a MSD/Duraspark combo, but if the stock ford control module is still used in the loop that could be the problem or it could be the pick up in the distributor. I saw a test procedure for the pickup in a manual, but do not remember how it said to test it.

I have replaced the rotor, cap, & wires and still no spark, so I believe those are eliminated. Can you have a spark from the coil and still have it not work properly? I have replaced the magnetic device in the distributor but I broke the drive gear so I have not been able to test it yet!

The Duraspark is not hooked up through a module. The purple and green wires from the MSD is connected, via a connector from MSD, to the 3 wire plug from the distributor. The white is use as a kill switch

I am not using the module. MSD straight to the distributor, via a plug from MSD (two wires to 3 wires).
