Hi,
I think this topic has been addressed before, but I can't find it. Which years are the best T5 for use in an early Mustang? I seem to remember that different years/models have different gear ratios on the top and bottom and that supposedly some years/ models are sturdier than others. Is it also true that all of the T5 from Fox Body Mustangs and later fit the same. Thanks in advance for the info.

Try this web site:

http://www.moderndriveline.com/Technical_Bits/t5_history.htm

'94 and '95 T5's can be converted with the input shaft from '93's. This input shaft simply unbolts from the front of the tranny and is replaced with the shorter cousin.

My advice is to buy Motorsport T5-Z. Its a great tranny for engines having 300 ft-lbs torque or less (almost all 289's and 302's regardless of horsepower). Its not a good tranny for stroked 302s (347 cu in) or for 351's. Reason is simple, these bigger engines produce too much torque for the T5-Z.
