Ok,CompCams recommends you remove the inner spring on a dual valve spring setup when you break in a cam. How many of you guys actually do this? It would definitely be a pain in the @ss to put the springs back in once its on the car. Cam is 234 duration and .531" lift on intake. ------------------ 2BAV8 Mustang www.geocities.com/2bav8 1966 Restomod Coupe

Never done it in my life. This is an "insurance policy" for the cam companies. Well lubed, good lifters, the correct spring pressure and installed height will prevent and possible cam lobe failures. I pre lube the engines with a primer and a drill, then fire them up. I set the ignition timing, and hold the engine about 2000 RPM for about 2-3 minutes. I then let it idle and make carb/valve adjustments as neccasary. I then wing it a few time to peak RPM and listen for any missing or strange noises. I then shut it down and change the oil and filter. It it is a solid cam I re-set the lash at this time. Using this method, I have never had a cam go flat during break in unless it was a bad cam to begin with or cheap lifters. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00, '01, & '02 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." Thanks Alex, that's what I needed to hear. Otherwise it would be a major main in the @ss.Have you heard of any problems with CompCams camshaft lobes being wipped out lately? I heard they had a slight backorder because of this. Just trying to protect my latest V8 from pre-mature metal fillings . ------------------ 2BAV8 Mustang www.geocities.com/2bav8 1966 Restomod Coupe

Back order was due to lack of cam core blanks. ------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver MCA member# 53321 NHRA and IHRA SS/LA National Record Holder '00, '01, & '02 Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 Professional Manwhore The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked."
