I am re-wiring my 71 Mustang from a harness with idiot lights to one with a tach. I have gotten the smaller plug in for the back of the cluster circut board and wired in everything including the tach so that everything works...except the fuel gauge. I do not have a black wire with green dots that the wiring diagram shows. It must have been something unique to the tach wiring harness. I have a yellow wire with a white stripe coming from the sender going to one of the posts on the fuel gauge but when I try any hot wire on the other post, the gauge shows full or overfull even with only a small amount of gas in the tank. Can anyone help....I am about to pull out what little hair I have left.

Can you follow the gas gauge wiring to the plug in to detwermine the proper pin?

I did this swap successfully on my '72, but that was over 20 years ago!
